Admonition 1c

“O ye human, how long will you be dull of heart?” Why will you not know the truth and “believe in the Son of God?” Behold daily He humbles Himself as when from His “royal throne” He came into the womb of the Virgin.  Daily He Himself comes to us with like humility; daily He descends from the bosom of His Father upon the altar in the hands of the priest.

Just as He appeared in true flesh to the Holy Apostles, so now He shows Himself to us in the sacred Bread.  The Apostles, by means of their human eyes, saw only His flesh.  Yet when contemplating Jesus with their spiritual eyes, the Apostles believed Him to be God.

So today we, seeing the bread and wine with our human eyes, see and firmly believe it to be His most holy Body and true and living Blood.  In this way our Lord is ever with His faithful.  For, as He Himself said: “Behold I am with you all days, even to the end of the world.”

What we do notice is that St. Francis is not worried about or has a different understanding of “anamnesis” than we have today in fact it is not the recalling and being present with Christ at his Last Supper and Crucifixion that worries Francis but that we should recognise Jesus in the Sanctified elements in the first place.

For Francis eucharist  is Christ making himself visible to the eyes of faith, and his very picturesque manner of describing this event was reversed in the Roman Eucharistic Prayer I of the Novus Ordo: “Almighty God, we pray that your angel may take this sacrifice to your altar in Heaven.” – See more at: http://www.adoremus.org/1008Liturgy_Angels.html#sthash.gs3plSTx.dpuf   for context.

Here the Priest has overtaken and captured the Eucharist in his role as levitical priest and now offers this prayer for Christ’s mystical body, which is signified in this sacrament,(which he has confected)” that the angel standing by at the Divine mysteries may present to God the prayers of both priest and people, according to Apocalypse 8:4: “And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel” – See more at: http://www.adoremus.org/1008Liturgy_Angels.html#sthash.gs3plSTx.dpuf

This is what Francis wanted us to know:-

“” So today we, seeing the bread and wine with our human eyes, see and firmly believe it to be His most holy Body and true and living Blood.  In this way our Lord is ever with His faithful.  For, as He Himself said: “Behold I am with you all days, even to the end of the world.”””

Yet it has been stolen from us and how can we retrieve it?
