Where are we marrying?
A very quick scan of the Net has confirmed my thoughts that the number of couples marrying in Religious Establishments has declined over the past several years, depending upon Country.
Considerations for Australia
“Changing patterns in divorce and cohabitation over recent decades have resulted in differences in family structure; however families still remain a basic unit in society. While the rate of marriages registered in Australia each year has remained relatively stable in recent years, Australians have been marrying at an older age, and delaying having their first child until later in life. More Australians are in de facto relationships, and more are choosing non-religious ceremonies if they do decide to marry.”1.
Where, within these statistics do the marginalized sit?
From the beginning I have been speaking of those who, for various reasons have been refused the Sacraments because they are deemed unworthy to receive them.
Now I want to focus on those who have no choice but to marry in a civil ceremony because the Church refuses them a Marriage Sanctified by God.
There are Independent Churches, catholic and otherwise that will marry people in religious ceremonies and in Church though even in these cases the prevailing desire of those being married is a setting in the outdoors or a prestigious hotel.
For those independent Communities that meet in hired venues there is no option but to use such settings because a mainline denomination will not hire out a church to people it has refused to marry in the first place. So religious weddings in alternate venues are on the rise.
It is the intention of those to be married that makes for a sacramental occasion, not the venue and if the matter, form and intention of the Minister conducting the ceremony are licit then according to any denomination something sacred has occurred, whether Ordinance or Sacrament.
FURTHERMORE ACCORDING TO THOSE OF US OF LIBERATED THEOLOGY THE QUESTION TO BE ANSWERED IS:”HOW DO WE OVERCOME THE RESTRICTIONS PLACED UPON THE FAITHFUL BY THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK NOW BECOME PRIESTS LIKE UNTO AARON?” That has cause such angst among the little ones of God in the first place?
Temptations to Sin
‘If any of you put a stumbling-block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea.2
