Cathy Taggart offers a thought-provoking reflection on this Sunday’s Gospel for the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Gospel Reading from Matthew is that familiar call where Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Cathy headlined her reflection “Who Speaks for God?” but as I read her argument I thought it as much a reflection on who God speaks to. Cathy argues: “Jesus insists that God has chosen to reveal him(her)self not to those who supposedly are the experts in things divine, but to the ‘little ones’: the ordinary, seemingly insignificant, relatively uneducated believers.”
