Does Church need church.

What is a church?
The church and the roses of crucifixion.
The church in the forest – Ever green.
The church on the planes.

Church, in Christian doctrine, the Christian religious community as a whole, or a body or organization of Christian believers.

Britanica topic Church

Church, small c, a building especially designed for worship;just like a mosque or synagogue.

So do we attend church? Are we the Body of Christ wherever we worship – or must the Church need a church a dedicated building?

My assessment is – no we don’t for Jesus told us so.In my Name.

The images above most likely represent buildings where Protestants worship,we can hazard a guess by their architecture. Since they are not grand edifices we could make the comparison that their appearance is humble which elevates the Body.

Constructed from easily sourced Timber. American, I know since the Application used to generate the images is of the U.S.

Whether in America or Britain, these simple edifices replaced the grand churches of Episcopal buildings. Spaces of desired integrity for the sanctity of the Body.

The Body Fractured.

Firstly, Paul aka Saul: 1 Corinthians 12.13ff

1 Corinthians 12:13ff

One Body with Many Parts
12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

14 Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?

That the Church is the Body of Christ is a recurring theme in Scripture. We are all part of her and as Paul reminds us we all have different skills and functions. Paul tells us even the least of us ,though we may see ourselves negligible and expendable, a hand is not a hand without fingers anymore than the Church is Church without the fingery ones.

History and denominationalism aside our fractures today take a long time healing. The glbt, and all other fingernails cut off or wrenched from the Body deeply desire the experience of Church in church. Most search out, mostly in vain, for a Denomination,a Parish christian enough to rent to them a sanctified and true edifice for worship. This matters so much for morale and mental/spiritual stability.

I am a fringe dweller of such a small Community which has never found the conventional worship building. The Community has not grown, other seekers desire church and for the worship to be comfortable and as they are used to,-as though, perhaps they regret or deny the shorn fingers.

It takes time to realize that church does not the Church make.

I say fringe dweller because my wife and I experienced the coming of age of a small alternate christian Community I was ordained Priest there ;age, illness and small group politics led us back to mainstream denominations,to the Uniting Church of Australia. Yes,it is a building falling about our ears,it leaks and the local Council will not allow us to rebuild the complex because a tiny part is Heritage and mustn’t be interfered with.

So a church is no special thing. It is the Church that matters wherever we are. The strength of the Spirit indwelling those who meet in the Name,is something planted, watered and growing from Love.
